President’s Message – Sept-Oct 2018

Well, the 2018 Chapter car show is in the books, and despite some threatening weather early on, overall it was quite successful. Many thanks to all who participated, and congratulations to all of our show winners, especially Chapter member Martin Hirsch who took Best of Show with his 1959 Bonneville Convertible. Special thanks to all club members who helped in setting up and running the show event, and special thanks to all our sponsors!!

As much as we hate to see time fly by so quickly, 2018 turned out to be not the friendliest for car events, so now it’s time to plan for our Chapter’s annual “post-holiday” dinner. Many members have expressed a strong interest in returning to Casa Giuseppe in Lyndhurst. Let us know what you think. Of course, we welcome any other suggestions as to another venue for the dinner. We hope to pick the date and make that selection at our November meeting.

Our  next regular meetings will be November 15 and December 20 at the Maple Valley Diner (formerly The Hearth – still getting used to that change!!!). Please come and join us.

Our meeting began at 6:45 p.m. as chapter chaplain Steve Sanguino presented our invocation to 12 members. Lory Wolf went over her treasurer’s report and indicated that the chapter has 85 members. She also submitted our annual report to POCI. New Garden State Chapter membership rosters were handed out. Once again we will be having a chapter picnic at Silas Condict County Park in Kinnelon, New Jersey. It is scheduled for Sunday, July 28th at 11:00 a.m. rain or shine. Lory was kind enough to obtain the necessary permits. We decided that all picnickers tote their own food and drink. Ed and Elaine Silvestri graciously offered to supply the charcoal. Lory will draw up a picnic flyer for our Facebook page as well as for e-mail distribution. Beloved member Lou Calasibetta will host his ever-popular annual open house on Saturday, May 11th at his Old Stillwater Garage in Stillwater, New Jersey. Dianne Lennox our chapter President will announce Lou’s get-together in an e-mail to all. The Masonic Lodge in Clifton, New Jersey has been secured as the location of our Sunday, October 6th car show. Some confusion brought about by double booking on the part of the Lodge was resolved and we are good to go ! The food truck and DJ who served our shows in the recent past will be on hand to nourish and entertain. We talked about making changes to this year’s car show flyer – mostly as concerns car classes. Also since we have been plagued by incomplete ballots at prior car shows, we agreed to encourage all show entrants to vote their entire ballot. Chapter director Steve Kiellar led a discussion about chapter plans for the 47th Annual POCI Convention in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania in July. Emphasis was placed upon our chapter display. Mary Ann Schwedhelm manager of our club store mentioned that we are in need of our signature T-shirts. She will purchase more chapter T’s in an assortment of sizes to satisfy the minimum order of 12 shirts required by our apparel vendor. Our meeting ended at 8:15 p.m.

Attending club members dis- cussed enjoying the After-the-Holidays party!

January 17, 2019

Twelve members began our first meeting of the New Year at 6: 51 p. m. as chapter chaplain Steve Sanguino read our invocation. We discussed predictions of snow for the upcoming weekend and decided to postpone our “After the Holidays” party from Sun- day January 20th to Sunday January 27th. We also took a count of those members planning to attend. Lory Wolf distributed copies of her year-end treasurer’s report. Bill Wolf our newsletter editor proposed that the chapter purchase a small supply of first class postage stamps (for mailing out Metro News) prior to a price increase on January 27th. It was agreed to acquire 3 or 4 rolls of stamps at the current cost. Board member Steve Kiellar passed out updated POCI applications featuring the new logo. We established Sunday October 6th as the date for this year’s annual car show. We were asked for our opinions of last year’s show. It was suggested that we make some minor changes to the parking arrangement on the show field, that we encourage show entrants to completely fill out their ballots and also that show entrants not be permitted to vote for their own car(s). Sponsorship benefits will last a year from October to October. Lory will send 2 updates to our web designer. She reported that our Facebook page (Garden State Pontiac Club) is becoming more popular and that we should all feel free to post Pontiac related items. Lastly Bill mentioned that our friends at POCI’s Long Island Chapter will host their delectable annual brunch on Sunday April 7th at the View in Oakdale, Long Island. The meeting was over at 7: 4 4 p. m.
